Gestalten is excited to release the first monograph from the trailblazing Belgian designer Arne Quinze Works which extensively introduces the designer’s full creative universe from the past, present and future. Over 40 invigorating design projects crossing over from furniture, interiors and architecture to urban planning, car design and footwear are showcased with lavish photos, personal sketches and incisive text giving insight into Quinze’s cosmos.

To celebrate the release of the book, Arne Quinze will be hosting a book launch event in his hometown Kortrijk during the INTEREUR08 design biannual. Together with Gestalten editor Lukas Feireiss, they will be presenting the book and with a short talk on October 18, 2008 starting at 8:00 PM at Gallery 113, Quinze & Milan's gallery and showroom (Walle 113, 8500 Kortrijk).

REBIRTH ist eine einzigartige futuristische und provozierende Skulptur von Arne Quinze für das wohlbekannte und herausragende Pariser 5 Sterne Hotel Le Monceau on Avenue Hoche. (Hemingway, Walt Disney, Michael Jackson und Robert De Niro, nur um einige zu nennen, stiegen hier ab…)

Der Art Deco Tempel wird seine Türen für ein ganzes Jahr schließen während es einer Totalerneuerung durch Philip Stark unterzogen wird. Aber das Hotel wird nicht leise gehen sondern gibt ein exklusives Fest. In vollem Kontrast zum ausladend dekorierten Interieur wird Arne Quinze mit einer neuen gigantischen futuristischen Installation aufspielen und eine exklusive Gruppe von VIP-Gästen ist eingeladen, ungelöstes durch Teilnahme an der anschließenden „Demolition Party“ durch Zerschlagen, Zertrümmern und generell Auslöschen des verbleibenden zu klären.

REBIRTH BY ARNE QUINZE Die Schillernde Skulptur —die nur für eine exklusive Nacht besteht— Umfasst das gesamte Hotelgebäude wie ein erobernder und verwegener Alienstrom, Wände, Gänge, Treppen, Lobbies und Zimmer durchbrechend und durchlaufend. Mit ihren 15km fluoreszierenden roten Holzes und 40 Videoscreens bietet der vorsichtig berechnete endlose Energiefluss den REBIRTH darstellt eine Vorstellungssprengende Erfahrung für das Publikum.

REBIRTH reflektiert den Übergangsmoment in der das Gebäude seine Unordnung, sein Chaos und seine unzähligen Geschichten offenbart. Es speit seine gesamte gefangene Energie der letzten Jahrzehnte als Hotel aus. Es ist eine organische Sprengbombe, die still in der Luft hängt, gerade für einen Moment, in perfekter Anordnung, bevor es sich auflöst und verschwindet um sich in eine neue strukturierte Einheit zu verwandeln…

Cityscape - The Book

Cityscape is a colossal wooden sculpture in Brussels’ Quartier Louise. With it, the artist and designer Arne Quinze has shown how creative visions at the intersection of architecture, art, design and urban planning can make a social and structural impact on their surroundings. mini clubman meets Arne Quinze

Für die Dauer eines Jahres wird Brüssels Quartier Louise durch CITYSCAPE, eine beeindruckende hölzerne Skulptur des Belgischen Künstlers Arne Quinze belebt. Das Projekt ist eine gemeinsame Operation mit dem Auto Label mini, welches als Sponsor auftritt...

quinze: ‘mini has managed to change the face of the city. -It’s a vehicle that prompts reactions, since it’s almost impossible not to notice. mini, to me, is a good example of successful communication. ’ Simultaneously with the prelaunch of mini Clubman and during design september 2007 (design events running from september 9 to 30), quinze’s CITYSCAPE will be open to public from september 14 onwards.
The 18 meter-high art work is built on 12 meter-high wooden stilts.

Carrying the same ambiguous traits as her earlier siblings, of which UCHRONIA the wooden sculpture, last year built in nevada desert) is the most striking example, CITYSCAPE attracts brussel's inhabitants to this outskirts, acting as a magnet. It ’s encouraging us to interact, boosting new energy to a somewhat discarded neighborhood. Floating in the air, it provides a shelter to curious visitors, a place for contemplation and silence.
arne quinze: ‘CITYSCAPE resembles a frozen movement; speed caught in time. It is a powerful means of communication, in many ways. If you look at it from a distance, pure movement seems to keep the volatile structure in the air. Sunrays play with the wooden beams; a game of light and shade creates ever-changing patterns.
Its immense size – 40 meter long and 25 meter wide – absorbs you. CITYSCAPE calls for instant reactions, it ’s impossible not to feel any thing.’
Who wonders what will happen to all the used wood in a year from now: CITYSCAPE’s ‘bones and muscles’ will be fully regenerated and recycled.
